Linda Tanton

Linda Tanton joined the Federation of Tax Administrators in 2014 and currently serves as deputy general counsel. Prior to FTA, Linda served six years as the deputy comptroller for the state of Maryland, retiring in 2012 after 35 years of service with the Comptroller’s office. She began her service in the Comptroller’s office as an attorney hearing officer and moved into administration service as director of the Compliance Division before being appointed Deputy Comptroller. Before attending law school, Linda was a reporter for the Baltimore Sun.
Linda received her B.S. from Wake Forest University in 1968 and received her J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law and her LLM in Taxation from Georgetown University Law School. She was admitted to the bar in 1975.
She is past president of the Federation of Tax Administrators, served on the board of the Maryland Supplemental Retirement Plan and Calvert School, and is currently the treasurer of her condo board.
Linda has two sons, two stepdaughters, and 3 ½ grandchildren.
