Stephanie Schardin Clarke was appointed in January 2019 by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to serve as the cabinet secretary of New Mexico Taxation and Revenue.
Schardin Clarke serves as secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Federation of Tax Administrators, of which she has been a member since 2021.
She has over 20 years’ experience in state and local government in New Mexico. She previously served as deputy cabinet secretary of the Department of Finance and Administration, director of the State Board of Finance, Santa Fe County finance director, and as an economist for both the Department of Finance and Administration and the Legislative Finance Committee. She earned a master’s in economics from the University of New Mexico and a bachelor’s in economics from the George Washington University.
Schardin Clarke was raised in Fargo, North Dakota and is the proud mother of two sons.
She is an active member of several national and local boards and commissions. In 2023, she was elected to serve as chairperson of the Multistate Tax Commission. In 2024, she was elected President of the Western States Association of Tax Administrators (WSATA). She is also a member of the New Mexico Edge Certified Public Manager Program Advisory Board.
